Orioles at Yankees: Series Preview

                             Where: Yankee Stadium, New York

GAME 1                                                                 Pat’s Prediction Record: 11-7

When: 7:05

The Starters: Hiroki Kuroda vs. Jason Hammel

The Orioles will take the division lead into New York to face a Yankees team that they got swept by earlier this year. The Yankees have Hiroki Kuroda, who did not start in any of the games earlier this year against the O’s, on the mound tonight. Kuroda, is 1-3 with a 4.38 ERA so far this season. Out of his four starts he has been great in two and terrible in the other two. As for the Orioles, they will have Jason Hammel on the mound tonight. He has easily been their best pitcher so far this year. He is 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA. He did not pitch against the Yankees, either when we faced them earlier this year. I think that the Orioles will win 6-2, and Hammel’s pitching will have to carry the team.

The Life of an Orioles Fan

I am literally writing this post minutes after the Orioles just finished getting swept by the Yankees so it may come off as a reactionary post (its pretty much the definition of one) but I also think it is true. Even though we are only 6 games into this young season I feel like this season has already been a microcosm of every O’s season in the past 14 years and it’s what makes being an Orioles fan so frustrating. We start off by sweeping the Twins in which we dominated the series and left very little doubt that we were the better team. Are the Twins good? Not by a long shot, but they are an MLB team and sweeping any MLB team is a good feat for any team. Not only did we sweep the Twins, but our pitching staff put together an amazing series as our starters combined for a 1.00 era, it really could not have gone any better. So the “fans” (and when I say fans I mean the fair weather fans because the real fans no better) get all excited and all of a sudden the Orioles are cool again and everybody wants to go to the games because the O’s are finally back!
