Wizards Draft #3 Tonight

The NBA Draft is only an hour away and has figured the trade winds have been swirling. Here is the deal for the Wizards:

After making the trade for Ariza and Okafor they basically have one key position of need for the present and future: SG. The unquestioned top SG in the draft is Brad Beal so basically we put all of our hopes and dreams into him with that 3rd pick. That is a bit of an exaggeration but really not that much because we badly need a SG with Jordan Crawford being our only guy right now and we have the rest of the positions filled by solid NBA players. Unfortunately we may have tipped our hand too early because now many teams including the Cavs who have the 4th pick are looking to trade up to that 2nd pick (the pick the Bobcats currently have) and select Beal before he can fall to us.

Pat’s NBA Mock Draft 1.0

With the draft 20 days away, I figured I would put out my first mock draft of the year. I made this mock draft using ESPN.com’s draft machine. I based this mock draft on team needs and what each player brings to the table, as well as potential for each player. Here it is-

1 Anthony Davis 6’10″ PF, Kentucky- HORNETS
2 Thomas Robinson 6’9″ PF, Kansas- BOBCATS
3 Michael Kidd-Gilchrist 6’7″ SF, Kentucky- WIZARDS
4 Bradley Beal 6’5″ SG, Florida- CAVALIERS
5 Harrison Barnes 6’8″ SF, North Carolina- KINGS

Wizards Draft Prospects 2.0

The NBA draft is only about a month away now and the draft lottery less than 2 weeks so I thought it was time to give my big board for the Wizards possible selections with whichever pick they end up receiving. I also had a dream last night that they Wizards were awarded the #3 pick at the draft lottery so it made me think of this again. We know now that their selection will range somewhere between 1 and 5 so there are only so many players that I think the Wizards should consider. Remember when I give these rankings they are my rankings in order of who I think the Wizards should draft because they have specific needs and fits. I might think that one player is slightly better or has a higher ceiling than another player but I still might have that other player ranked higher because I feel that they fit with the Wizards better or are a position of need for us. My rankings have changed some since my original Wizards draft rankings on 3/27 (http://www.beltwaysportsblog.com/2012/03/27/early-wizards-draft-prospects/), but I will still be using the same descriptions of the players for this post along with my most recent updates.
