Mychal Parker Transferring

Terps Forward Mychal Parker has announced in a letter that he will be transferring from the University of Maryland.  He cited lack of future playing time as the reason and it seems Turgeon let him know that his opportunities would be limited.  As someone who is a Parker fan, I am saddened by the news but realize that it is probably the best thing for both sides. He will get a chance to develop on a better situation and the Terps will be able to recruit harder with an extra scholarship.  With the decommitment of Sam Cassell Jr. and this transfer, the Terps have eleven scholarship players this year and ten next year. It seems likely that either Cassell and/ or a possible transfer will be added between now and the start of the season.  Turgeon is looking at Michigan Forward Evan Smotrycz as his top transfer target.  He is a stretch four and has started a number of games for the Wolverines in the last two years.  He would provide a dimension that the Terps do not currently possess with his size and shooting.  This has been a busy late season recruiting season for the Terps as they try to make it back to the NCAA tournament.
