The Orioles 2012 1st round pick made his pro debut yesterday for the Aberdeen Iron Birds and was very good in his short outing. He was only allowed to pitch 3 innings but he didn’t give up a hit and didn’t allow a walk or a run in those 3 innings of work. He also had 2 k’s to go with his hitless ball. Definitely a good start for the kid is really all I can say about this. Not much to read into here as he is playing at fairly lowly Aberdeen but nonetheless it’s still fairly impressive and certainly better than doing poorly. I’d assume that now Gausman is in the organization he pretty much automatically becomes our 3rd ranked prospect behind Bundy and Machado but ahead of Schoop. As O’s fans knows, after Schoop it drops pretty dramatically but adding Gausman in there just solidifies our minor league system a little more. Apparently he is likely going to be a very fast mover through our system and while he will probably spend the rest of his 2012 days in Aberdeen, he could be an Oriole by 2014. Can’t wait to see him progress.

Orioles Sign #4 Overall Pick Kevin Gausman
With the 5 pm deadline looming today, the O’s were under a lot of pressure to sign their 1st round draft pick from the 2012 draft in LSU pitcher Kevin Gausman. Fortunately for them they were able to sign the 21 year old to a 4.32 million dollar deal with time remaining. Obviously this is a big signing for the Orioles and a necessary one as they are looking to replenish a farm system that is pretty top-heavy right now. While I guess Gausman will not change the top-heavy part, he will add more depth and will automatically become a top 5 prospect in our organization and quite possibly top 3 behind Bundy and Machado. I would expect him to start in Aberdeen and possibly get some innings in this year now that he is officially a part of the organization. Most importantly though it is a relief that he is now apart of the organization and hopefully will be an Oriole in no time!
Orioles Select Kevin Gausman with 4th Pick in MLB Draft
So I wrote a whole post before the draft outlining the different prospects the O’s can choose from and what my take on the whole thing was but for some reason it didn’t save (thanks wordpress) and the whole thing was deleted. Basically I was demoralized. All of this has nothing to do with the title of the post, I just felt bad for myself. In the MLB draft that took place tonight however the Orioles took right handed pitcher Kevin Gausman who played for the LSU Tigers this season. I am not going to pretend to personally know anything about him but I have read a couple of things off of ESPN.com about him. Here is the overall analysis that ESPN scouts gave Gausman:
