Orioles Move Struggling Arrieta To Bullpen

The Orioles decided to move the Jake Arrieta to the bullpen, as he has been struggling mightily this year. After turning in another bad performance in his last start, in which the O’s lost to the Phillies. Manager Buck Showalter said it was an 11th-hour decision to keep Arrieta in the majors, where he can work through his struggles. Arrieta definitely needs the work, and a lot of Orioles fans probably thought that he would be sent down to Triple-A. Instead rookie reliever Miguel Gonzalez will be optioned down to Triple-A, where he will be a part of their rotation. Arrieta said he hasn’t worked out of the bullpen since fall league in 2007 — where he threw 18 scoreless innings as a reliever — but he embraced the change.

GAME 1

The Starters: Jeremy Hellickson vs. Dana Eveland

The two best teams in the AL East are facing off for the first time in this series. These teams are both 20-12 and both tied for the division lead. The Rays have Jeremy Hellickson on the mound tonight, he has been great so far this year. He has a 3-0 record with a 2.75 ERA. He has only had one bad start all year, which was against the Athletics in his last start. He got pulled after just 3.2 innings pitched because his pitch count was already at 103. Other than that, he has been great the rest of his starts. As for the Orioles, they have Dana Eve land on the mound tonight. He has not pitched yet this year, but has experience on six different major league teams pitching. In his career he is  19-24, with a 5.52 ERA. I think that the Orioles will win game one 6-5.
