Redskins News & Notes: Skins Cut Gaffney, Sign Rackers, Merriweather Arrested

Even with the draft being last weekend, the Redskins have kept busy with player transactions and player digressions apparently. Last week the Skins signed Kicker Neil Rackers and just today they cut WR Jabar Gaffney. Also last week our new free safety Brandon Merriweather got pulled over in Virginia and was arrested for a DUI after refusing a breathalyzer, never a dull day in Washington but here are my thoughts on the last week’s action:

Redskins Trying to Trade Jabar Gaffney

According to reports the Redskins are attempting to trade away Jabar Gaffney. I am sure they are doing this because of the 2 young WR’s that they signed this off-season in Pierre Garcon and Josh Morgan. Now the Skins have an overload at WR with Garcon, Morgan, Moss, Hankerson, Gaffney, Banks, Armstrong, etc… Do I like that we are attempting to trade away Gaffney? Not really. I get that we have a lot of WR’s and the two that we brought are younger and have a lot more potential than Gaffney. I also get that we don’t have a lot of draft picks, especially with the RG3 trade going down and we are looking to add some more picks. The main problem I usually have with these types of NFL trades is you almost never get the value of the player with the draft selection. If you have looked at recent NFL trades, Brandon Marshall (one of the top WR’s in the league) went for a 2nd round pick. A couple of years ago Randy Moss was traded for a 3rd or 4th round pick (can’t remember which) when he was in him prime. So basically if I had to guess what the Skins would get in return for Gaffney would be a 6th round pick, possibly a 5th.
