Last week the Skins re-signed RB Tim Hightower to a 1 year deal. Hightower was our starting RB for the first 7 games of the year untill he tore his ACL against the Panthers and we haven’t heard much from him since. I am definitely cool with this move because depth and competition at any position is always a good thing and he was actually pretty good when he was healthy last year. I am not sure how well he will come back from his surgery (everybody’s different), but if he comes back healthy then we will get a solid back who is perfect for this one cut system who has solid power and possibly most importantly is an excellent pass blocker. Worst case scenario I could see him in on passing downs to block because I don’t trust any of our other backs in that area yet. It will be very important to have a back that can block our most treasured asset in rookie QB Robert Griffin. The backfield is now rather crowded though with Hightower, our two picks last year in Royster and Helu, as well as our 6th round choice this year Alfred Morris. At least one of them will be cut and I would predict it to be Royster but if Hightower doesn’t comeback completely healthy I wouldn’t be at all shocked to see him be the one to go. That is the fickle nature of the NFL, if you are healthy you can be the starting RB for the team but if you haven’t completely recovered from surgery in less than a years time than you will be out on the street you and me. Obviously I hope that Hightower returns healthy and is the power back with great blocking ability from last year.
