Markakis Out 6 Weeks with Broken Hand

Nick Markakis will be out for 6 weeks after being hit by a pitch in the hand last night by CC Sabathia. Markakis left Saturday night’s 5-4 win over the Yankees in the fifth inning immediately after being struck by the pitch. The injury will keep him out of the remainder of the regular season and well into October.

It’s definitely broken. He’s out. We’re hoping he can get back in time to play deep in the playoffs for us,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. “It breaks my heart personally, and for him. I know how much this time of the season means to him. We’ll go forward from there.”  Read more...

                                                     Game 1 Starters: Ivan Nova vs. Brian Matusz

The first time theses two teams face this season, neither team would have expected the records to be like this. The Orioles are 3-0 and the Yankees are 0-3. Brian Matusz has been disappointing throughout his career, but he has a chance to redeem himself this year. Thia will be his first start of the year. The Yankees will have Ivan Nova on the mound after having a great rookie season last year. Nick Markakis will look to stay hot in this one as he has hit 2 home runs in 3 games already. Pick to Win AL East: New York Yankees

I think that the Yankees will just have too much of everything for the Rays and Red Sox to keep up with them. They have great hitters back again with Alex Rodriguez, Mark Tiexeira, Cano, and Granderson in the middle of the lineup. On top of that they have a catcher who was an all-star last year in Russel Martin and a sure-fire hall of famer in Derek Jeter. One of their biggest holes last year was pitching, and they certainly knew that and made some big moves in free agency. They traded for Michael Pineda who had a great rookie year and signed Hiroki Kuroda who has a career 3.45 ERA. On top of that they still have an ace in C.C. Sabathia and another young star in Ivan Nova who went 16-4 last year. They have certainly improved their pitching and will win this division.  Read more...
