Brian Roberts Out For Year

Brian Roberts announced Sunday night that he would be out for the season as he would be getting hip surgery. Roberts battled back all season to get back from his concussion that he suffered last year and he still had serious symptoms for a while. However he did manage to come back, only to hurt his hip a couple of weeks later and cause him to go back on the DL. After another stint on the DL, Roberts tried to go through a rehab assignment with Aberdeen but after not being able to play without considerable pain, he was forced to call it a season.

Brian Roberts Likely to be Activated Tomorrow Night

It looks as if the long wait for Brian Roberts and O’s fans will finally come to an end tomorrow night as rumors have it that he will finally be activated onto the major league roster and be in an Orioles uniform. He’s been out for over a year with his concussion and it has been a long road back and while I am still not sure how good he will be for the O’s, it is good to see the long time and loyal Oriole back on the team. BRob has been in the minors for the last couple of weeks rehabbing and hit .263 in that time with a home run and a few doubles. Those stats aren’t amazing or anything for but for a guy who hasn’t played in a year and couldn’t even be near crowds of people in the winter due to his injury (that’s how bad it was) it’s obvious that he is progressing nicely. I’ll talk more tomorrow about what I expect from Roberts but it will be interesting to see how they use him. Another thing is that somebody will obviously have to be sent down to Norfolk to accommodate BRob. It looks like right now the favorite for that demotion is yesterday’s hero Scott Tolleson but also could be somebody like Ryan Flaherty, Steve Pearce, or Endy Chavez. None of those guys would be huge losses but none of them have been huge liabilities either.

What I think the Orioles should do with Brian Roberts

Just about a year ago, Brian Roberts dove head first into first base, and got a concussion. It has been a long year since then, and Roberts is now ready to start making rehab starts in Bowie in the near future. Roberts is expected to be back with the Orioles in 3-4 weeks. Usually you would think that Roberts would come back and start at second base like he did before. But, it isn’t so easy now that Robert Andino is playing well. Give Andino credit, he got an oppurtunity to be an everyday player, and he really made the most of it. Now the big question is, what do the Orioles do with Roberts? They certainly have a lot of options. Here is a list of a few of them
