Maryland Athletic Director Kevin Anderson Leaving for Stanford

According to the San Fransisco chronicle Stanford University is very close to coming to an agreement with current UMD AD Kevin Anderson. Anderson has been at the school for less than 2 years but has already seen in overhaul with many of the programs. This is just the initial report and we will be coming out with a much more detailed post about it shortly but all I know is that my brother’s (who attends UMD) initial response when I told him that Anderson was leaving Maryland was “well that’s lucky”.

Terps to Rock New Field and Uniforms

Everybody remembers those uniforms that the Terps football team brought out last year in their opening night game against Miami on national TV. The overly prideful of the state of Maryland jerseys that sometimes had the Maryland flag on them? Well they are back as you can see from the picture at the top and they are basically the same ones as the football jerseys but they are for the basketball team. Personally I think the white and black ones look decent, the red ones look bad and the yellow ones look horrible but I have never been a fan of the recent trend of the Terps hoops team wearing yellow. Maryland is trying to work with Under Armour (which is Baltimore based) to make themselves unique so they can attract more recruits and bring more attention to their program. These uni’s definitely do that and while I am not sure the effect it will have on the recruits (just let the Harrison twins customize their own jerseys for all I care) it definitely will bring the same effect that the football jerseys did by bringing attention to Maryland and the program but lets hope that the basketball team can actually put that attention to good use with a good season next year.

Logan Aronhalt Transferring to Maryland

With the Terps losing Terrell Stoglin a couple of weeks ago, we not only lost one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference but we lost a very high percentage of our scoring. While there is nobody in college basketball today that could really fill that void, the Terps did their best to help the cause by adding transfer Logan Aronhalt to the roster. Aronhalt played for the Albany Great Danes of the America East conference last year and was their 2nd leading scorer at almost 14 points a game even though he battled injury all year. Logan has graduated from Albany but still has one year left of eligibility. Aronhalt is looking to earn his master’s degree in kinesiology. Because Albany does not offer it as a graduate program, he is seeking a transfer to another school to get his degree and play basketball. He will be eligible to play for the Terps this season because he did graduate.

Former Terp, Raven, Cornerback Domonique Foxworth To Retire

Current NFLPA President Dominonique Foxworth has went public that he has likely played his last NFL game at just 29, saying “I think that I’ve probably made the decision that I’m going to move forward and stop playing football.” This isn’t exactly a shock considering his retirement has been a discussion since he tore his ACL during training camp in 2010, but being a former Terp, Raven, Baltimore native (attended Western School of Technology in Catonsville) and genuinely impressive man, I think it bears mentioning.

Ashton Pankey Leaves UMD: Merl’s Take

Eddie already really covered Pankey’s transfer, but I just had to quickly put in my 2 cents: First and foremost, as Eddie said, if Pankey’s mother or any other member of his family is experiencing health problems, I wish them all the best, and hopefully a speedy recovery.

That said: This transfer is a big net positive for the Terps in the long run, and really only a minor negative — if at all — in the short run.

Ashton Pankey Transferring From Maryland

Well the Terps basketball program took its 3rd loss of the off-season today when redshirt-freshman Ashton Pankey announced that he was planning on leaving Maryland to transfer to another school. Apparently he is going to transfer to a smaller school closer to his home in New York. Pankey said in a statement “My mom is the rock in my life, and I promised her I would take care of her like she did for me. Therefore, I am choosing to put my family first and look for a school closer to home.” Obviously on a personal level if there is something wrong with his mother then I feel bad for him and hope that everything works out the best for him and his family. As a fan I am not really that surprised that Pankey transferred because we brought in 4 guys this year (Smotrcyz, Cleare, Dodd, and Mitchell) that play his position and he wasn’t a very good player to start. He wasn’t really bad or anything because he was just a freshman but I highly doubt that he would have ever been the regular starter while in a Maryland uniform. This is kind of bummer because I thought that he could have been a very good backup big for us for the next 3 years but he shouldn’t be that hard to replace.
