Maryland Moves to the Big Ten: Why I Don’t Like It

Today Maryland officially announced that the they are going to be moving away from the Atlantic Coast Conference and into the Big Ten Conference. Personally as a fan I don’t like the move at all but I definitely understand why they did it. Though I have noticed an almost divided Terps nation right now between the people who want us to go and those who want us to stay. Those who want to go can’t possibly understand why we should want to stay in an ACC that was never the same after VT/BC/Miami came a long time ago and people who want to stay can’t understand (or maybe they can but don’t agree with it) why the Terps would choose to get more money rather than stick with the tradition of the ACC and all that it represents (opinions will differ on that front).

Dez Wells Transfers To Maryland

Today at around 10 am former Xavier guard Dez Wells announced his intentions to transfer to Maryland to play basketball. His choices seemed to range from Kentucky to Oregon to Memphis to us and after his night at Bentley’s on Saturday night in College Park it seemed like he was destined to come to the Terps (his twitter said he was going to Bentley’s at least). While this whole process really didn’t take very long, it is a pretty huge pickup for Maryland.

Terps 2012 Hoops Schedule Released

The Maryland Terps 2012 basketball schedule (men’s obviously) was released this week and while we pretty much already knew our competitors, it’s still interesting to see how their schedule is layed out. Here it is:

Oct. 29th: Terps Day of Reckoning

Quick Post for all of you Terps Basketball fans out there: According to college basketball writer Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria), the Harrison Twins have confirmed that they will announce their college choice on October 29, 2012.

The Twins, Andrew and Aaron, are widely regarded as two of the best prospects in the 2013 class and are the best package deal to come into college basketball in a very long time. They currently list their options as Maryland, Kentucky, Baylor, Villanova, and SMU, though they are expected to choose from between the first 3.

CJ Brown Reportedly Out For Season

Reports have been going around that Terps QB CJ Brown got hurt in a non-contact injury in practice has been ruled out for the season. Apparently Edsall is going to talk about it in  press conference soon so we will update this post then but I have heard from multiple sources that this is true. Obviously this is a huge blow for the Terps who are already down a ton of players from all the Edsall transfers and Brown was actually solid for him when he came in for Danny O’Brien. Not only that but he was only a sophomore so he had plenty of room to grow. I mean I’m sure that he will still be back next season and have the same amount of years of eligibility left but this is just a huge loss for this year. Strangely enough, Coach Edsall just announced yesterday that freshman Perry Hills was their official backup to Brown and while nobody really cared that much then, it’s a huge deal now. However like I said he is just a freshman and was a 3 star so it’s not like he is a big stud or anything but we’ll just have to see how he does. I’ll probably come out with an impact on the season post once this becomes official but if it is true then this is going to be a loooooong season for the Turtles.

Former Terps Coach James Franklin Hands Out Scholarship

I saw this on sportscenter last night and thought it was a really cool thing. Former Terps offensive coordinator now is the Head Coach at Vanderbilt and he has actually done a very good job there thus far as he is pretty much building the program from scratch. This video basically speaks for itself but basically it’s a Rudy type moment where this kid who is a walk-on seemingly has been working really hard and Coach Franklin surprises him with a full scholarship in front of the entire team in a film session. Good stuff.
