The Redskins roster is going to be cut to 53 soon and I am afraid that our punt/kick returner Brandon Banks is going to be cut. The Skins are probably going to keep 6 WR’s and it looks like it will probably be up to either him or Aldrick Robinson for the last spot. I vouch for Banks because I just think that he can be such a game changer. In last night’s preseason game he had a 43 yard run and a 47 yard catch. He’s just so explosive and he can pick up yards in huge chunks and for a Redskins offense who has struggled for seemingly the entire decade, that is really important. I also think that he could be a top 5 returner for us this year if he remains healthy. I understand that with the new kickoff rules, returners become less valuable but really he specializes in punt returns and with our solid defense we should get a lot of those. His ability to set this offense up in good field position would be crucial this season as I think we are going to struggle at times with a rookie QB. And of course is ability to take a punt to the house on any given play and put up a quick 6 points is an ability only he has on this team. I also believe he could be used on different gadget plays on offense whether it is WR screens, the wildcat, reverses, whatever.. You saw last night how he can easily break big plays and I just think that is invaluable in today’s game. Does he fumble too much and drop too many passes? Of course but I guess what I am arguing is that his big play ability more than overcomes that and I believe he will be much more valuable to this team than Aldrick Robinson will be. Maybe I am just a fan who has seen a struggling Redskins offense for years and wants a guy who can score 6 in the blink of an eye or maybe I am just a crazed fan who doesn’t pay attention to all of the little things he does wrong that hurts the team. I do know this though: I hope the Redskins keep Brandon Banks this year.
