The extremely underrated Jordan Zimmermann is finally gaining some national recognition and today it was announced that he has been named the National League Pitcher of the Month for July. With Zim’s award win, the Nationals have now claimed 3 of the 4 NL Pitcher of the Month honors, with Strasburg winning in April and Gonzalez winning in May. For the month Zimmermann went 4-0 with a microscopic 0.97 era, lowering his season era nearly a half a run from 2.77 to 2.28. His current 2.28 mark ranks 3rd best in the majors and just .06 above league leader Ryan Vogelsong’s 2.22. This recognition makes a statement to the rest of baseball that Jordan Zimmermann is already one of the best pitchers in the game and he’s getting even better with every start. If he keeps this up he is a legit contender to win the NL Cy Young and lead his Nationals deep into the playoffs.
