Pat’s Mid-Season MLB Awards

AL MVP- Mike Trout

Mike Trout’s stats look a little bit like this, he is batting .341, he has 12 home runs, 40 RBI’S, 26 stolen bases and a .408 obp. Those are very impressive stats, especially for a rookie. Mike Trout has not been on the Angels the whole year, as you may remember the Angels started off the year 6-14, then they called up Mike Trout from triple-a. The Angels have the best record in baseball since that day, at 42-24, and they now have an overall record of 48-38. They now are in the lead for the first wild card spot in the al, much in thanks to Mike Trout.

Others Considered: Josh Hamilton, Adam Jones, Austin Jackson, Robinson Cano, David Ortiz

NL MVP- Andrew McCutchen

McCutchen has been great this year for the Pirates, and it has proved, they are now sitting atop the NL Central at the all-star break. Mcutchen leads the NL in batting average at .362, he is fourth in the NL in homer-runs, and he third in the NL in RBI’S.  Those are just his batting stats, in the field he has only made one error this whole year, and has caught 191 fly balls this year. To add onto that, he has been a pretty good baserunner this year as well, stealing 14 bases so far. Everyone knows that Andrew McCutchen being this good this year, has a big part to do with the Pirates having a 48-37 record.

Others Considered: Joey Votto, Ryan Braun, David Wright, Carlos Ruiz, Melky Cabrera

AL Cy Young: Jered Weaver

A lot of people probably think that Justin Verlander (9-5 2.58 ERA) deserves this award, but I truly believe it should go to the Angels starter, Jered Weaver. He leads the AL in ERA at 1.96, third in the AL in wins at 10 (only has one loss), leads the AL in WHIP, and has only walked 22 people in 96.2 innings pitched. Those are amazing numbers, especially the ERA at 1.96, that is absolutely amazing.

Others Considered: Justin Verlander, Chris Sale, CJ Wilson

NL Cy Young: RA Dickey

RA Dickey has been a success story for the ages so far this year. The 37-year-old knucleballer went from a no-name to a household name for all casual sports fans. His knucleball is so good that he may not be able to pitch in the all-star game because the catchers can’t catch it. Even Dickey says that he has no idea how it is going to move when he pitches it, and apparently, neither do the batters. Dickey leads the NL in wins at 12, fifth in ERA at 2.40, second in the NL in strikeouts at 123, and leads the NL in WHIP at .93! There was one point in the year that Dickey threw two 1-hitters in two consecutive starts. The first was against the Rays,a dn the second was against the Orioles.

Bryce Harper has lived up to the giant expectations placed on the table for him. He will be making an all-star appearance in his first year in the big leagues. He is batting .282, with a 8 home runs, and has brought an energy to the Nationals that can not be matched. He has a very bright career ahead of him.
