Weiters, Johnson, Jones Make American League All-Star Team

The All-Star teams were announced today and the O’s had 3 players announced as reserves for the team. Center fielder Adam Jones, Closer Jim Johnson, and Catcher Matt Weiters were all announced to the American league team. All players seemed deserving, especially Jones and Johnson because they have put up really good numbers this year while Weiters numbers may be a little more average, he does many things that don’t count on the stat sheet and his position is very weak in today’s MLB. The main snub for the O’s was Jason Hammel who has been our ace all season. He had an ERA in the 2′s all season until he got rocked in his last start that bumped his ERA up to 3.29 on the year. I don’t watch enough baseball other than the Orioles to really determine if he or anybody else really should have made it, but I do know he has been very good for the O’s this year and his numbers reflect that. Either way it’s cool to at least have 3 O’s in the game rather than our usual 1 just because every team has to have a representative. Jason Hammel is included in the final fan vote for the last spot on the team but it will be tough for him to get the spot with Yu Darvish on the list as well with his massive asian fan base.
