On Thursday night my dreams came true and the Wizards were fortunate enough to have Brad Beal fall to them and were smart enough to take him. As I have stated on here many times, it was a pretty easy decision considering we basically have all of our other positions set. With the addition of Beal we now have a quality all around shooting guard and a much-needed sharp shooter. Even though his college numbers were not great, he was playing out of position with senior ball hogging guards so I fully expect him to be a very good shooter in the NBA. This pick basically sets the Wiz up perfectly for now and in the future as we now have the set lineup as Wall/Beal/Ariza/Nene/Okafor for the next 2 years and at the very least have a backcourt of Wall and Beal for hopefully the next 10 years. With Wall’s ability to get to the basket and draw defenders, Beal is the perfect complement as he will be given plenty of opportunities to knock down open jump shots and I fully expect him to take advantage.
Not only is Beal a perfect complement for Wall but as I said he is a perfect fit for this team that desperately needs shooting. In the starting lineup you have Wall and Ariza who are both very poor outside shooters for their positions and while Nene can hit the midrange jumper, that is about his range. I would pretty much cringe anytime one of these guys takes a 3 pointer. Looking at the current bench we have Crawford who can shoot (and likes to let everybody know that) but after that we have a bunch of non-shooters including Singleton, Vesley, Booker, and Seraphin. Everybody knows while Crawford can shoot, he probably has the worst shot selection I have ever seen and I watched Nick Young play for many years here (its close). Beal will come in and bring the all around quality of play from the shooting guard position that we have been missing here for so long and expect out of the #3 pick in the draft (rather than a mid 1st round pick like Crawford or Young).
