I haven’t made an Orioles prediction for a while now but Patty has been busy with his own baseball games (his team just won a memorial weekend tournament in VA yesterday and has another game at 6 that I will be attending), but I figured I’d get back into the mix and fill in for the little fella. As far as the O’s, they have been struggling a little bit lately losing 6 of their last 8 and getting shellacked yesterday by the Jays. Their offense has gone a little quiet and their pitching staff has fallen off a bit. Other than that, they are in perfectly good shape.
I think Arrieta has had a better season than his numbers indicate so far and even though his ERA is just under 5, I think it will be closer to around 4 by the end of the year (I understand thats not a real bold prediction). I think he is probably the 2nd or 3rd best pitcher on this staff as of right now with Hammel and Chen obviously in the mix too (I know there numbers are a lot better). I have no idea how well Arrieta will pitch today. The Blue Jays seem to have a solid lineup but nothing that can’t be beaten but if hes off he could be knocked around as well. Though seeing how I have been saying he will start producing better numbers, I will predict him to have a solid night and go 7 IP and give up 2 runs or something like that (give or take a few runs…).
The Jays pitcher Ricky Romero has had a down year but his standards it seems. His era is close to 4 and it seems like he has been one of the best pitchers in the game in recent years. Still though he has been decent and I expect him to be the same way tonight. I’ll give him 7 IP and 3 ER (Apparently I have both starters going pretty deep).
From the lineup that I saw the O’s put together for tonight, it looks decent. Xavier Avery was sent down for Endy Chavez (making our team worse) and Mark Reynolds will be getting his 2nd start back from his injury in the 6th spot behind Wieters. I think we have a solid chance tonight but just like every baseball game it all depends on the starter.
Prediction: Orioles 4-2
Random Stats: Arrieta: 7 IP 2 ER 6 K’s 1 BB, Wieters 3-4 2 singles and a double, Jones 1-3 + BB (extends hitting streak), Reynolds will not get a hit but will walk (bold).
