Adam Jones Set to Sign Long Term Extension to Stay In Baltimore

Ken Rosenthal is reporting today that the Orioles and Adam Jones are on the verge of signing a long term contract that would keep the all-star outfielder in Baltimore until around 2020. The terms have not been disclosed yet but Rosenthal said that the deal will be “well north,” of Miguel Tejada’s 6 year $72 million deal. My guess is the extension will be somewhere in the ballpark of 6 years $90-100 million, but to be clear that’s just a guess. The 27 year old Jones is in the midst of a career year so far in 2012, batting .311 with 14 HR, 29 RBI, 6 SB and is slugging an outstanding .601 while playing a gold glove center field. This extension is not only great news for Jones and the O’s but it’s amazing news for us as Oriole fans. Not only does it mean that we will have an all-star in the middle of our lineup and roaming Camden’s center field for years to come, but it shows us that the Oriole’s front office (namely Peter Angelos) are at least somewhat interested in winning baseball games. This spring has already been as good a time as ever to be an Oriole fan, but this extension is nothing short of Oriole Magic.

Note: Exact contract details to come as they become available

Update: Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi are reporting that the deal is in the range of 6 years for 85 million dollars. That would be a very reasonable deal for the Orioles in my opinon.
